Kennedy Mine Foundation Volunteer Tour Guide Opportunity

Are you looking for a fun way to volunteer your free time and contribute to preserving Amador County’s history? Would you like to be part of a fun-loving, hard-working group of dedicated people?

Please consider joining our tour guide team of volunteers at the Historic Kennedy Gold Mine.

We aim to preserve, restore, display, and educate the public about this unique historical site and the rich mining history in Jackson and Amador County.

No previous knowledge is necessary to be a tour guide. We will provide the training and a tour guide manual with all the necessary background documents. You will work with an experienced tour guide until you are comfortable soloing. The only cost is to purchase a Kennedy Mine shirt at our wholesale price.

We are planning an Introduction to the Kennedy Mine Tour Guiding Program on Saturday, February 15, at 10 am in the Change House Museum. It will last about 3 hours and include refreshments.

We request that each tour guide volunteer sign up for as many weekend days as they desire. The Kennedy is open each Saturday and Sunday, March through October, 10 am to 3 pm.

The plan is to have two tour guides each Saturday and Sunday to split the duties, so each guide works a half day once or twice a month. For example, you could sign up for every third Saturday.

There are also opportunities to guide on weekdays- school groups from elementary to high school, adult bus tours, and private tours. Car clubs like the Model A Ford Club and RV groups often visit during the week. Tour guides are needed for these. These are fun groups to work with.
